A Response to Mr. Steen's Statement on Catholicism
Bríd Uí Donnacha·

Recently, it has come to my attention that a member of the Dáil, and a party leader - that being Neil Steen, has been attacking members of the coalition - based on identity, not politics. Not only is this unconscionable, this is anti-Irish. We as a society have moved on from the intrinsic Church control of our policy - and of course, Mr. Steen, as a man, would disdain that - it, of course, stripped him from a way of life that allowed him, and men like him, to oppress us women. Neil can live in blissful ignorance, but I have a rude awakening for him - many Irish women, myself included, would rather not return to an era of subservience to their husbands, to being shoved in mother-baby homes to die. In this country, the Catholic Church has blood on their hands. The blood of dead mothers, who never had access to abortion. The blood of young men and women abused by their local priests and nuns. The blood of babies thrown in mass graves. We will not be going back. - Bríd Uí Donnacha, TD
