My friends, Tonight, the British people have spoken, and the result is deeply disappointing for the Labour Party. As leader, I take full responsibility for this defeat. While we fought hard for our vision, we did not earn the trust of enough voters. For that, I am truly sorry. After careful consideration, I have decided to step down as Leader of the Labour Party. I believe this is the right decision for the party as it begins the work of rebuilding and renewing itself. I want to thank every member, volunteer, candidate, and supporter for their dedication and commitment. Your efforts and belief in our cause have been extraordinary.
