Yesterday was a dark day for global free trade. In a reckless move, the Japanese government singlehandedly killed negotiations for balanced free trade by imposing an extraordinary tariff that ultimately punishes American consumers. This action will not go unanswered. The GOP will aggressively advocate for a reciprocal 100% tariff on any nation that refuses to engage in fair, balanced trade. We will protect American interests until our global partners return to the negotiating table.
