SPEAKER THURMOND DEAD AT AGE 106
James Thurmond·

House Speaker James Strom Thurmond was found dead in his Georgian home last night due to heart failure. While his medical condition was not known to the public, the long-time representative's health had long been deteriorating. Thurmond is credited by his colleagues as the "Architect of the Southern Strategy," the man who most vociferously defended Southern rights and representation, bringing the AIP to national dominance alongside Pat Buchanan and James Lodge through his work as National Campaign chair. He was known for his love of country, his loyalty to his party, and his hatred of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Thurmond's estate has been properly divided among his family, while also leaving an incredibly large sum of money to be donated immediately to the American Independent Party. Terry Taliban Jr, a young senator from Georgia, is set to take his place as Georgia State Chair, and Marty Goldman from Florida has already assumed Thurmond's role as Treasurer and Campaigner.
