Ireland Must Modernize State Industry

Ireland should refocus its state-owned corporations on industries that strengthen the economy while using energy and critical resources more efficiently. By reducing unnecessary electricity consumption and improving productivity, the country can better balance essential resources and support sustainable growth. At the same time, the government should encourage investment in key industries where Ireland remains dependent on imports, particularly fertilizers, industrial chemicals, and plastics. Expanding responsible resource extraction and domestic manufacturing will improve self-sufficiency, create skilled jobs, and build a stronger, more resilient national economy.
