NATO UNITES!

American efforts to ease mounting Cold War tensions suffered a serious setback after Soviet representatives abruptly abandoned talks with the United States. Secretary of State Lee Radziwell had sought to establish new lines of communication between Washington and Moscow in hopes of reducing tensions and preserving international peace. Instead, the Soviet delegation rejected further discussion and walked out of the conference, raising new concerns in Washington over Moscow’s increasingly aggressive posture. In response, NATO allies have assembled to condemn Soviet aggression and elect Fenula Streibel as the next NATO Secretary General. “The West seeks peace,” one NATO official declared, “but it will not retreat in the face of intimidation.”
