History
Konsum was founded by the Soviet Military Administration of the Soviet Occupation Zone in East Germany. The company provided retail services to citizens of the German Democratic Republic until its dissolution in 1990. Because Konsum was not a state-owned entity, it continued to exist.
During the post-reunification recession, Konsum reduced its scope to Berlin. On September 10th of 1991, the corporation expanded into Brandenburg, claiming that it hopes to expand to the entirety of Germany's Osten region. This expansion continued throughout 1991 and 1992 with the company also opening retail stores in Hamburg.
On March 18th, 1993, Konsum opened stores in California in an attempt to capture the American market. On April 11th of the next year, the corporation further expanded into the Chugoku region of Japan. In a press release, CEO Ava Christiane stated "Konsum should be able to both provide internationally and hire internationally to better support the people of this world. We are not divided by borders."
Operations
Konsum operates primarily in the eastern Germany's retail sector. Konsum's strongest sector is in Berlin.
